Eddie the Eagle Soars into Priory’s Gardens
10 October 2025
Eddie the Eagle has landed at Priory – in wooden form!
Eddie is the latest fantastic carved addition to the Priory gardens courtesy of expert John Winders.
John has already made World War 1 soldier Tommy for us and the Heron, and Eddie will now be displayed and moved to different sites throughout Priory by our gardener Mr Farron.
In return, John has asked for a £200 donation to Derian House, his favoured charity, which we are more than happy to do as we already do such a lot of work with the children’s charity.
John said: “I had a large piece of wood so I thought I would make an eagle with its wings up. I talked to Mr Farron and he said Priory would love it to add to their collection.”
Mr Farron said: “I think it’s great. It will be displayed around the gardens at different venues, such as the roof and the courtyard.
“It’s already provoked a great deal of interest from the pupils asking about it, how it was made and so on. It might also deter some of the squirrels and rabbits we get here.”
Ann-Marie Fishwick, Community Fundraiser at Derian House, said: “Both John are Priory are fantastic supporters of Derian House and it just shows the community relationships we have built up which help keep the hospice open."
