Here at Penwortham Priory Academy, we believe your well-being is of utmost importance. This section of the website signposts support in and out of school should you need it.
We believe there are a number of reasons why this support benefits you:

The holiday periods can be difficult for some - we would like to draw your attention to Kooth Digital Health.
Their services are open for students to access at any time. The chat queue on Kooth for a young person to speak with a qualified practitioner is open every day of the year at 12 noon-10pm on weekdays and 6pm-10pm on weekends.

Kooth
The service offers therapeutic one-to-one, group work and counselling support to children and young people aged 5 to 18 (extending to 25 years based on SEN need) within the whole of the Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) area.
No child should be left to deal with poor mental health alone so it provides services supporting children and young people's emotional health and wellbeing.
Compass Bloom is committed to helping children and young people grow through what they’re going through.
It provides free and confidential emotional health and wellbeing support for young people with mild to moderate emotional health and wellbeing needs who attend one of its allocated 87 schools and colleges.
How the service can help young people
It helps young people to build their skills to cope with:
- Low mood: sadness, low motivation
- Mild to moderate anxiety: worries, irrational fears and concerns
- Difficulty in adjusting to change and transition
- Difficulty in managing emotions: angry outbursts, frustration and distress

How you can access the service
Through School
Link workers meet monthly with the school's Designated Mental Health Lead. If you would like your young person to access this service please speak the school/designated mental health lead to share your concerns. Following this, Compass Bloom can discuss the best support for your young person; this may be a referral into the service, advice, guidance and/or signposting.
Parent/Carer Consultations
If your young person is experiencing low to moderate anxiety or low mood Compass Bloom can offer a consultation to support you to support them. This could be sharing resources, giving practical advice and guidance or signposting to appropriate services. With almost 13 years experience of working in schools, Charlotte recognises the vital role schools can play in supporting children and young people’s mental health and has campaigned over the years to make the discussion of mental health compulsory to the school curriculum.
How we support
Individual Assessment and Psychological Treatment of Student’s Mental Health: the psychotherapy offered includes Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Compassionate Based Approaches.
To access this service please speak with a member of the pastoral team.
Providing support for young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans (LGBT).
Some young people who identify as LGBT can experience a lack of support, awareness and acceptance from their family, friends and other people in their lives.
LGBT groups can provide additional advice, support or a safe space to meet other young people who have had similar experiences.
Lancashire LGBT supports a number of groups and activities across Lancashire which provide a diverse range of opportunities for LGBT people. The Lancashire LGBT website provides details of support groups, volunteering, events and an Information and Support Helpline.
It includes four youth groups run by Lancashire County Council for young people aged 12-19 years:

LGBT Consortium a national charity that supports LGBT groups, organisations and projects.
The Proud Trust in Manchester and surrounding areas has details of main events such as Manchester Pride and has support information on a range of issues on their website.

Lancashire Mind is an independent mental health charity dedicated to improving the mental health and well-being of people in Lancashire. They offer a range of services specifically designed for children and young people aged 5-18

This programme connects young people with peers who have similar experiences, helping to reduce feelings of isolation and improve mental health.

A free 6-week programme for young people aged 10-18, where they work with experienced well-being coaches to set goals and develop practical coping strategies for:

Children's Virtual Wellbeing Coaching - Lancashire Mind
In-Person Well-being Coaching
This is a paid-for service available Lancashire-wide, for young people living or attending school in Lancashire between 10-18 years old. Throughout the sessions, a Lancashire Mind Wellbeing Coach will introduce young people to positive coping strategies through activities centred around the young person and the issue they are facing. This includes an introduction to the five ways to well-being, alongside practical tools such as mindfulness and breathing techniques.
