Year 7 Girls Kick Off Their First Football Campaign
25 February 2026

Our Year 7 girls football team made school history this February as they embarked on their first ever competitive season.
Thanks to the increasing number of girls taking up the sport, this is the first year the girls’ game has been included in a local fixture calendar - an exciting milestone!
The team opened their campaign against All Hallows in truly testing conditions. Battling fierce wind, relentless rain and freezing temperatures, the girls showed tremendous spirit and resilience.
Despite the harsh weather, they held their opponents to a 0–0 draw at half time. Laura T and Belle L both created excellent chances, sending several shots on target, while Anissa and Maddie S were outstanding at the back with strong defensive play and some superb saves.
Although the match ended in a 2–0 defeat, the girls’ determination and teamwork shone throughout.
Their next fixture saw them face Lostock Hall Academy and this time the girls were ready to make their mark.
From the first whistle, they played with confidence and purpose. Powerful attacking play from Sophie pushed the team forward, setting up Reeva to score Priory’s first goal of the season and giving the girls a 1–0 lead at half time.
In the second half, defenders Isla W, Isla T, and Lila worked brilliantly together to keep Lostock Hall at bay. With momentum building, Belle L netted two fantastic goals to secure an impressive 3–0 victory.
PE Teacher, Miss Beesley said, “I’m incredibly proud of the way the girls have embraced their first season of football so far. Their determination, teamwork and willingness to learn have been inspiring. They’ve set a fantastic foundation for the future of girls’ football at Priory”.
A huge well done to the whole team for their commitment, improvement and enthusiasm. This is just the beginning - let’s keep it up, girls!
