MATCH REPORT BY MY RAYNOR
The Year 10 boys football team were in South Ribble Cup action on Wednesday, 13 May, as they travelled away to play Brownedge St Mary’s.
The quarter-final tie began quietly with the first 15 minutes being evenly contested without either side creating many clear cut chances. However, in the 16th minute Priory captain McClure, made an impressive run carrying the ball out of defence and up to the opposing penalty area. After a couple of blocked shots the ball dropped to Mapstone who calmly finished to give Priory the lead.
Just five minutes later, Heaton was on hand for a tap in to make it 2-0, after a free-kick had caused confusion in the Brownedge defence. Just before halftime, Brownedge pulled one back from a direct freekick.
Shortly after the break, Brownedge equalised after Priory had failed to clear the ball. Encouraged on by Mr Raynor and Mr Barnes, Priory found a new energy and following a powerful clearance by Dixon, Ajibosin ran through the defence to finish neatly past the Brownedge keeper to make it 3-2.
Brownedge refused to give up and came back at Priory again, forcing an equaliser with 10 minutes to go. A final push was needed and Priory found a final breakthrough as Tayburn forced home the winning goal much to the delight of his teammates.
Mr Raynor said, "The lads put together a really committed display and despite the setbacks of conceding equalisers, they kept on pushing to earn a place in the semi-final against Hutton."
