Priory pupils embraced the spirit of international football last week as the PE Department transformed lessons into a thrilling World Cup Tournament Week.
Six pitches were set out across the school’s sports field, allowing pupils to compete in their own World Cup-style competition while representing nations currently competing on the world stage in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
Swapping their usual PE kit for national team colours, pupils proudly showcased their football skills and support for teams from around the globe.
Head of PE & Sport, Mr Bullock, said: “We had England, Morocco and Turkey shirts, so we there were a few different nationalities taking part. It’s just a bit of fun and a chance to get into the World Cup spirit as the tournament enters its final stages.”
The week produced plenty of memorable moments, with fierce competition and some highly contested matches despite the soaring temperatures. Just like in the real tournament, hydration breaks were introduced to ensure pupils stayed safe while enjoying the action.
Mr Bullock added, “Competition has been huge, with some very competitive games despite the heat last week. Like in the real competition, hydration breaks have been mandatory!”
The event proved a fantastic way to combine physical activity, friendly competition and international sporting excitement, with pupils fully embracing the World Cup atmosphere throughout the week - including Year 8 Isla and Emeli who were eager to cheer England on against DR Congo on Wednesday evening!
Even our gardener, Mr Farron, got in on the act with this small nod to the championships in Priory’s Mediterranean Garden.
