Our Senior Prefects were inaugurated into their roles by the Head Girl from 1986 Vanessa Cole (nee Wade) and Deputy Head Boy from 2006 Jon Wallings.

Issy, Kelsey-Rae, Reese, Oliver and Naeem were selected following hustings at the end of the summer term.

They impressed with their presentations in front of Mr Eastham, Mr Gee, Mrs Ham and the rest of the Year 11s where they explained why they wanted to be a Senior Prefect and the changes they would make. They were given their distinct tie and pin badge at their first assembly this term.

Issy said: “I wanted to be a Senior Prefect as I want to help the younger pupils in school. It was scary speaking in front of everyone but I was really pleased when I was told in assembly that I was one of the five.”

Kelsey-Rae said: “I want to help the younger year groups. If they have any concerns, I want to try and fix them.”

Oliver said: “I want to help Priory now but also in the future, I want to make a lasting impact and make changes which will benefit all pupils.

“One of my ideas was to make Sports Captains and House Captains more visible then if there are issues in these areas, pupils know to go to them. I want to help to improve the school.”

Naeem said: “I also want to make a difference and make changes which will impact Year 7s now and beyond. I was really happy to be chosen as it is an important role.”

Reese added: “I want to make sure everyone feels included and no one feels left out in school. It’s exciting to be chosen and it is an honour. It’s a big role in school.”

Head Girl of 1986 Vanessa has been back to Priory already as all her four children attended the school. But she was delighted to have a guided tour and a more relaxed visit to her former school.

“I wish I was still at school!” she said. “I enjoyed my time at Priory, how the form teachers encouraged you and, after going to a small primary school, it was an eye-opener.

“I loved English and Geology at Priory. I didn’t really like PE but Miss Slater always encouraged me.
“It has always been a bit weird watching teachers who taught me, teaching my children too! They didn’t look any different.

“I have gone on to work in a number of roles around domestic violence while I have also had three hair salons! I also completed a degree aged 40, majoring in Social Policy and minoring in Health Studies.”

Jon was Deputy Head Boy in 2006, in the same year as radio star and TV presenter Jordan North.

“I think I was Deputy Head Boy for my comedic value! The Head Boy was really into sports.

“It’s been strange coming back, it’s the first time, and the school has been transformed.  There are so many open doors for children nowadays that perhaps we didn’t have.

“There are still some of the teachers here who taught me and that’s a credit to the school as it shows how much they like it.

“I used to sit with Jordan North in a few of my classes and he hasn’t changed. He has always been true to himself.

“At Priory, I did a vocational qualification in Travel & Tourism and that served me well as I worked as cabin crew and I am now a railway controller.

“I also was manager at Lava & Ignite for a while and I had many good nights with Jordan there!”

The prefects will meet with Principal, Mr Eastham once a month for a catch up and discussion.  Before that though, they look forward to meeting prospective families as they join us for our open evening on Tuesday, 22 September.
