On Wednesday, our school came together to celebrate Black History Month with a vibrant and meaningful food sale, recognising and appreciating the rich cultures, histories and contributions of Black communities.
Students and staff enjoyed a delicious array of traditional African and Caribbean treats, including Chin Chin, Mandazi, Puffs, Jollof Rice and cupcakes adorned with toppers featuring iconic Black figures from history and culture.
It was a delight to welcome back Class of 2025, DaMari, for the event. Two years ago, DaMari helped shape how we celebrate Black History Month at Priory, working alongside Mrs Qadri, who leads our Equality & Diversity initiatives.
Reflecting on the importance of the month, he said at the time: “It’s something I feel really strongly and passionately about. From an early age, my Mum and Dad taught me and my brother to know our worth and to know our history, and I am glad to have this opportunity to share that with others.”
The event was not only a celebration of heritage, identity and culture but also an opportunity to support an important cause. We are proud to share that more than £100 was raised for Black Minds Matter, a charity providing free culturally appropriate mental health support for Black individuals.
Thank you to everyone who contributed, baked, bought, listened and supported. Your generosity and enthusiasm helped make the event a joyful success and provided a wonderful opportunity to learn about, celebrate and appreciate Black culture and history.
