Head librarian and English teacher, Mrs Elliott, is encouraging even more pupils to make use of Priory’s fabulous library.

It is already packed at breaks and lunch with pupils reading, quietly chatting or playing chess, and pupils who want to take books home can borrow books for up to four weeks, all tracked on the library's lending system.

Mrs Elliott’s proud group of librarians help to run the library and they recently received a boost with almost £100 worth of free books from Scholastic after pupils bought books at September’s Scholastic Book Fair.

Mrs Elliott said: “We love receiving new books. Pupils spent around £300 at the Scholastic Book Fair which meant we got £90 of free books.

“We know books are expensive nowadays so it’s great that pupils have access to all these books, especially the new ones.

“We are also always open to receiving donations of books from home which can be used in our library.

“We want every year group to use our library – it’s a big asset to the school.”

On the negative side there are around 200 books overdue so please return any to Mrs Elliott - there won't be any fines!

Our librarians love working in the library.  Year  9 Archie said: “I like the responsibility of being a librarian. I enjoy looking after the books and I like reading so it’s good.

“We do have some books which haven’t been returned so we do have to try and find them – one person has had a book for 700 days! 99% of people bring back books though!”

Alex said: “I enjoy the authority and responsibility of being a librarian. It’s exciting when new books arrive. The library is organised well into alphabetical sections or a special section on authors.”

Imogen said: “I like to see what books people read and I want to help them as I enjoy reading. The library does get busy!”

Year 7 Alfie said: “I wanted to be a librarian as I saw pupils with a special badge and I thought it looked cool. I want to get as many badges as I can!”

Mrs Elliott is aiming to start a book club for Years 7 and 8 so please look out for further information.

If there are any books at home which are in good condition and you would like to donate to our library, please drop them off with Mrs Elliott or email j.elliott@priory.lancs.sch.uk
