A huge congratulations to Year 10, Kenzie, who has been attending a construction course at Preston College every Wednesday afternoon throughout this academic year.
Kenzie’s commitment, enthusiasm and positive attitude were recognised at the Construction Awards Evening on 29 April, where SENCo Mrs Holland was delighted to be present to see him receive the Employability Award.
The event recognised the achievements of students studying construction through the School Links Programme, which enables pupils to gain hands‑on experience in a college environment while completing their school education.
Mrs Holland commented ‘It was fantastic to see Kenzie’s hard work rewarded, he has received positive praise from the college throughout the year and is always keen to tell us what he’s been working on and managed to build each week.’
The college explained that the final Employability Award is presented to a Year 10 learner who consistently demonstrates outstanding professional qualities, and Kenzie was identified as a potential recipient within the very first weeks of the course. His tutors praised him for always approaching tasks with a positive mindset, showing a genuine eagerness to develop his skills, and for displaying a natural talent for brickwork.
In addition to his practical ability, Kenzie was commended for being polite, respectful and smiley, making him a pleasure to work with in the college environment. Tutors commented that these qualities, combined with his growing technical skill, mean he has a very promising future and “will be a great apprentice one day”.
The evening concluded with closing remarks from Mark Taylor, Director of School for Construction at Preston College, who thanked partner schools and employer sponsors for their ongoing support. The awards event celebrated not only academic and practical success, but also the strong partnerships between Preston College, the Eric Wright Learning Foundation, local schools and industry.
Well done to Kenzie on this fantastic achievement — a testament to his hard work and dedication.
