On Wednesday, 29 April, some of Priory’s most able Year 7 mathematicians took part in the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge, a 25‑question multiple‑choice test designed to push pupils’ mathematical thinking.
Run by the UK Maths Trust, the Junior Maths Challenge is a national competition for pupils in Years 7 and 8. Priory’s mathematicians sit the one‑hour paper, which tests problem‑solving, fluency and reasoning through a series of increasingly demanding questions.
The UK Maths Trust is the leading British charity dedicated to advancing the education of young people in mathematics, and the challenge has been run at Priory for a number of years by Maths teacher Mr Hunter. He said:
“The UKMT Junior Maths Challenge is completed under test conditions in school and really does stretch pupils, requiring them to apply the knowledge they have learnt in lessons in unfamiliar ways.”
Pupils who achieve a qualifying score will be invited to progress to the follow‑on round, the Junior Kangaroo.
